Here is what you can expect from a horseback vacation at the World Famous Silver Spur Ranch.

About Us:

The Silver Spur Ranch is a family owned and operated guest ranch located in the picturesque mountains of Idaho. Nestled along the continental divide its rolling hills, lush meadows, and breathtaking mountain views, provide a unique and unforgettable setting for travelers seeking to experience the west and put their riding skills to the test.

For over 30 years the Silver Spur Ranch has been treating guests to a taste of the west obtainable nowhere else in the form of a open country horse drive. Over 40 horses are pushed more than 60 miles each week as the herd is moved to rotate pasture ground and afford the young horses the opportunity to learn the different terrains Idaho has to offer.

Ranch Accommodations

Welcome to the ranch! As soon as you arrive, you'll be greeted by our team of cowgirls who are excited to meet you and make you feel at home. They'll be happy to answer any questions you have and help you settle in.

After your initial introduction, you'll be assigned one of our cozy rustic cabins for your stay. Our authentic log cabins have been renovated and repurposed from different locations around Idaho, adding a unique charm and character to your stay. From an old one room schoolhouse to a vintage granary, each cabin has been carefully updated and transformed into a warm and inviting space for you to enjoy.

Our cabins are equipped with twin-sized pillow top mattresses, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of adventure. You'll also have access to a solar-powered 110 outlet to charge your phone or camera, so you can capture all the amazing memories of your trip. And if the nights get chilly, you can stay warm and comfortable with a propane heater in your cabin.

We know that solo travelers may prefer their own space, but depending on availability, we may bunk single riders together with another single rider of the same gender. This provides an opportunity to meet new people and make lasting connections with other guests on the ranch. We strive to make your stay with us as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

Horses

Tuesday we meet the horses! We’ll start the day with an incredible breakfast before we head out to the barn to meet your mount for the week. Our head wrangler will be there to pair each rider with a horse that suits their personality, riding ability and vacation preference. It's important that we get to know you and your preferences, so we can ensure that you have a memorable and enjoyable experience. Just like people, each horse has its own unique personality, so we take great care in matching you with the perfect partner for your adventure.

After horses have been assigned and lunches packed, we'll embark on a 15 mile trail ride where we'll get to know each other and our horses. This is the day to find your perfect stirrup length, experience the different terrains our area has to offer, and most importantly, get comfortable with your horse. For fast riders, we have fast horses. For slow riders, we have slow horses. And for those who have never ridden, we have horses that have never been ridden! All jokes aside, we have a horse to fit every person.

Before we begin, we'll make sure each horse is warmed up by one of our experienced wranglers in the arena. Then, we'll show you the ropes and help you learn more about your horse's unique personality traits. Our goal is for you to feel comfortable and confident with your new companion, so we take the time to make sure you're both a perfect match. We want you to have an unforgettable experience and create memories that will last a lifetime.

For two unforgettable nights, we'll be out on the trail pushing the horses between pastures. Don't worry about carrying all of your luggage on horseback, the crew will transport your travel bag to camp. If you don't have a carry-on, we've got you covered with a sturdy canvas duffle bag that will keep your belongings safe and secure. The remainder of your belongings can stay locked securely in your cabin at the ranch. We cover well over 100,000 acres on our ride, much of it at a trot. A popular saying at the ranch is, “If it’s lost on the trail, it’s lost.” We recommend items such as passports, wallets, or anything of significant value remain at the ranch for the two nights we are on the trail.

Once we arrive at camp, you'll stay in one of our heavy-duty Kodiak Canvas tents, designed to withstand even the harshest elements and keep you warm and dry. Your tent will be made up with a toasty 0 degree rated sleeping bag, flat sheet liner, and premium foam bedroll pad, ensuring a comfortable and restful night's sleep.

At camp, you'll have the option to explore the stunning surroundings with a hike, snack around the campfire, or soak in the natural warm springs. If you prefer a refreshing shower, don't worry, we've got you covered. We have a shower station set up at camp, complete with an instant propane water heater.

This is an experience like no other, where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and connect with nature. So, get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey, filled with new experiences, stunning scenery, and memories that will last a lifetime.
