Over six days and 70+ miles, you’ll move 40+ horses across the breathtaking Rocky Mountains of Idaho, challenging yourself and experiencing true freedom on horseback. Unlike a cattle drive vacation, where the pace can be slow as you herd cattle, our Horse Drives are fast paced and full of adventure! Join us as we focus on working with our herd of young, bred, or rescued horses in training, helping them navigate diverse terrain while giving you the thrill of a real riding adventure.

Do I need to be an experienced rider to join the Horse Drive?

The Horse Drive is designed for experienced riders who are comfortable at a walk, trot, and gallop. Unlike many dude ranch vacations that cater to beginners, the Silver Spur Ranch Horse Drive requires riders to be confident in the saddle for 5+ hours a day. If you haven’t ridden recently, we encourage taking lessons before your trip to reacquaint yourself with horseback riding. Past guests have done the same and found it immensely helpful. We pair each rider with a reliable horse suited to their skill level, ensuring a safe yet thrilling experience.

Unlike many dude ranch vacations where casual attire may suffice, our Horse Drive demands practical gear suited for active riding. Don’t forget personal items like gloves, sunscreen, and a tube of chapstick. We provide all meals, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks, and are able to accommodate multiple dietary restrictions when notified in advance.
